This "bug" is the result of the rich-text editor, and varies from protocol to \
protocol.  On some protocols, you will indeed get a transparent input area.  On \
others, the background color is by default set to white for you and so white is what \
you see.  How else would you propose that you could tell what background color you \
happened to be using for your message?

However, the user list in the chatwindow ought to be transparent too.
