What i personaly do is using SSH to connect to kopete at some other places. 
if it is on the same machine, i guess i would use su (you can use it 
transparently by adding a shortcut on your desktop for example) 
 
Running kopete on the same allow me to keep the History synced, but also the 
contactlist.xml, and all other stuff. 
 
Another thing you can to is simply to share the same history place (by doing 
sybolics link from ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete/logs 
 
anyway, that's true than a merge script would be usefull, not even difficult 
to do, but i don't think i will do it myself.
