Hmm, wait a minute... maybe contactlist.xml contains messed-up values now...

if you still have a contactlist.xml.bak, and it's not too outdated, could you 
try copying that over the normal contact list, see if it helps?

The file is in ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete/ by default, unless $KDEHOME points to 
something else than ~/.kde.
