I'd like to share my recent experiences with everyone, and I know they are 
mostly known, but im going to say it just to make sure since this NEEDS to be 
fixed for 0.6.0 

Instead of saying WHAT is screwed, im going to explain exactly just what 
happened, as i feel its a combination of several things... (contact list 
converter, new contact renaming/tracking stuff, etc)

Im running kopete CVS updated as of 10 minutes ago... only ICQ/MSN are loaded
I copied my contactlist.xml.backup.jan.20.2003 over (like anyone using kopete 
0.5 would have if im not mistaken) and here's what happened...

1) _some_ (not all.. 4 of the 20 or so) of my MSN contacts got separated from 
the metacontact and went to the toplevel under their own, new metacontact, 
with NO name (ie, "")  The 4 that this happened to have some similarities...
  a) two of them were from the same metacontact (which had 4 under it 
originally)
  b) the other two were the only contact beneath the metacontact, and were the 
last two contacts that i'd added to my list.. not sure of the exact dates... 
jan 10-20 somewhere

2) All of my metacontacts that only had ONE ICQ contact inside, got renamed to 
the ICQ contact name, instead of keeping my current MetaContact name.

3) Metacontacts with TWO subcontacts (ICQ, MSN) got renamed to the ICQ Contact 
name

I guess thats about it... I know that some people want this MSN contact 
renaming syncing and whatnot business, but it MUST be disabled by default.  
and must never rename a metacontact with more than one subcontact

Maybe a right click ktoggle menuitem "Sync Metacontact Name" ? and then this 
is a "PER METACONTACT" setting, thats off by default?

Okay i've wasted enough time, I have a huge assignment due tomorrow, and, well 
its barely started and its 9:30 at night and its due at 8:30 so i best go at 
least attempt __some__ of it.

If you need any more info on my contactlist, or if u want a copy of my 
contactlist.xml/contactlist.xml.backup.jan.20.2003  just let me know.
