Actually, in MSN Messenger, MS Sans Serif doesn't mean "no font", it's 
just the default font when the user hasn't chosen another font. In 
Windows XP, there is also a TrueType font called "Microsoft Sans Serif" 
(with Unicode support) that is used to replace MS Sans Serif but I think 
it still sends "MS Sans Serif".

By the way, I think it should be better to send (until the font is 
customisable in Kopete) MS Sans Serif (or Tahoma maybe, which is more 
readable) than MS Serif which is ugly in my opinion.
