Already does for Noatun and KsCD.  All at once if you're feeling sadistic, 
after last night's testing session I didn't want to hear another mp3 ever 
again.

Xmms is only a problem, buildwise, because of the non-kde stuff it requires.

On this topic, Stefan Gehn (mediacontrol) and Flo Niebling (xmms-kde) can 
confirm that the only way to sensibly talk to many media players is to write 
your own class hierarchy to abstract the different interfaces, which they 
have also had to do.  Maybe we should float a base mediaplayer dcop interface 
with kdemultimedia peeps?
