i've started thinking about the design. it's not easy, because there are many 
constraints, which often go in contrary directions (flexibility vs simplicity 
vs genericity and extensibility...), leading to different designs.

but design discussions tend to go on and on... it was discussed on irc, and no 
completely satisfactory design was found. and we need code. so i'll pick one 
design which looks reasonable, implement it for 0.5, and see if it works. i'm 
taking into account the following reqs:

 * aim can have a contact picture, which (even if not supported yet) might be 
displayed at the bottom of the chat window
 * yahoo has the concept of a IMVironment, which is basically a background 
picture for the chatview
 * jabber needs a combobox between the chatview and the textedit
 * the buttons like color and fonts should be capabilities (because some 
plugins might not have them, see msn-bg color for example)

if you can think of any other ways the plugins might want to customize the 
chatwindow, please state them. if not, i'll start coding :-).
