From my point of view I consider the idea horrible, I don't like skinned 
applications AT ALL. Instead, just give your entire GUI a nice, uniform skin. 
Skins were invented on operating systems that didn't support widget styles 
and I'd love to keep it that way.

That said, there still seems to be a demand for it for God knows what reason, 
so I cannot really object to it either :(

"that doesn't make too much work" definitely doesn't qualify to skins, because 
it's an awful lot of work. Basically you're inventing your own widget engine.

Hmmm... why not just make a GUI option to run 'kopete --style 
myCoolWidgetStyle' instead? It is possible to have a single KDE app use 
another style. In fact I do this when using valgrind, because my default 
Liquid style has some issues that can interfere with the actual output I want 
to see (besides Liquid being slow in valgrind). Just create some nice bitmap 
styles that are optimized for Kopete...
