The Mandrake KDE 3.0.1 RPMs are badly broken.

KDE 3.0.0 was installed in the default /opt/kde3 directory. But Mandrake
switched to the /usr directory for 3.0.1. David Faure explained this is
because the new Cooker RPMs (that are meant to become the new Mandrake) are
also installed in that same location.

You can expect new 3.0.1 packages on ftp.kde.org next week. Those will be
designed to be installed in /opt/kde3.

I also experienced the same problem. Several KDE programs (not part of the
official packages) not starting because KDE didn't knew about them in
/opt/kde3. This was one of many bugs present in Mandrake's KDE packages.
