it may depend on how you use minicom - I use it two different ways (both fail like \
this) one is an old one (2.00.0 on redhat 7.3, run over ssh from a gentoo machine \
running kde3.4) the other is gentoo tip-of-tree - in the past (kde 3.3 and before) \
minicom would always resize the window when run - I think it has a thing about window \
width and doesn't like them being wider than  80 chars, doesn't seem to care much \
about height - you might also need to make sure you have the bottom status line \
turned on. The symptoms are that the status line gets written over and over again \
continually, clearing the screen in the process \
