I don't have joe on my new system (LFS with KDE 2.2.2)
I just have a copy on my old (not bootable since broken) SuSE partition. If I 
mount my old partition and start joe from there, everything seems to be okay.

But that's just not enough testing because it didn't happen all the time.

I'm going to forward your mail to a friend who frequently uses joe and whos 
KDE hopefully is 2.2.2

But I use less via ssh quite often here - no problems.
