A quick "grep -i mailto **/*(.)" (zsh) in ~/.local revealed
share/applications/mimeapps.list. So I deleted this and ran the kbuildsycoca4
command from above, which fixed the problem.

However, I still agree with Anders that setting kmail as default mail app in
KDE should result in konqueror (and all other KDE apps) to use it for mailto:
links.
