I still have (some different) problems
KDE 4.3.1 "release 163"
OO 3.1.1
OpenSuSE 11.1

1) the *doc file is recognized as "Plain text file" in konqueror
2) click on it opens in kwrite (nothing else expexcted for plain text)
3) opening explicitly with OO-writer - does "nothing" (visible) - no error no
file opened.

*.doc files are well defined as msword files which should be opened in OOwriter
IMHO sftp does not recognize them....
