OK, I have some more information. The problem is definitely related to the \
automounting of my USB drive.

I did a clean boot this morning, no USB drive attached, and could delete files \
without any problems.

USB drive contains 2 partitions, listed in /etc/fstab as :
/dev/disk/by-label/MK_Backup /mnt/MK_Backup ext3 noatime,users 0 0
/dev/disk/by-label/MK_Storage /mnt/MK_Storage ntfs-3g noauto,users,force 0 0

So, some more testing... I rebooted with drive attached, logged into KDE and checked \
the partitions. the ext3 MK_Backup partition was mounted, the NTFS MK_Storage \
partition was not (noauto). Currently no problem deleting files. I manually mount the \
NTFS partition using 'mount /mnt/MK_Storage', still no problem deleting files.

Unmount MK_Storage, remove the USB cable to attempt automount; insert cable and \
automount kicks in. A progress dialog titled 'Mounting /dev/sda1' just sits at 0% \
even though sda1 (the NTFS partition) is mounted - I can browse to it while the \
progress dialog is at 0%.

While the progress dialog is sitting at 0% I can delete files using Konqueror. As \
soon as I cancel the progress dialog the freezing returns.

So obviously this is not just a Konqueror issue, but more a KDE or automount or \
ntfs-3g issue.

Any suggestions on what to do next?
