------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149355 Summary: error uknown host: offer really friendly help to handle it Product: konqueror Version: unspecified Platform: SuSE RPMs OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general AssignedTo: konq-bugs kde org ReportedBy: bluedzins wp pl Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.7) Installed from: SuSE RPMs STORY: ===== Let's say you typed: http://fizyka.umk.pl/ (man, it took me long to find a good example :-) ) Konqueror says: " An error occurred while loading http://fizyka.umk.pl/: Unknown host fizyka.umk.pl " It is ok for me to manually edit address again, but let look closer what could be done here. Opera answer: " You tried to access the address http://fizyka.umk.pl/, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page. Make sure your Internet connection is active and check whether other applications that rely on the same connection are working. Check that the setup of any Internet security software is correct and does not interfere with ordinary Web browsing. If you are behind a firewall on a Local Area Network and think this may be causing problems, talk to your systems administrator. Try pressing the F12 key on your keyboard and disabling proxy servers, unless you know that you are required to use a proxy to connect to the Internet. Reload the page. " More elaborate, but those are those words, not real help really. WISH: ==== This kind of problem can happen to anyone, why not display instead just a html page with table (it could be just a local .html file, and it could be a template so clever user could customize it). Each table would be nice image + short text: [reload] try again [magnifying glass] search internet (1) [history icon] show visited pages (2) [book] explain more (3) (1) then pages are searched for: with extra "www" prefix like in this report example, http instead of https and vice versa (2) then pages from history are shown, with +/- N differences in spelling (3) then the similar page to one opera shows is displayed I think it would be useful no matter how experienced the user is (maybe except (3) in case of power-users :-) ). _______________________________________________ Konq-bugs mailing list Konq-bugs@mail.kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/konq-bugs
