IIRC, KDE used to work with animated icons.

If I try to use an MNG icon for a folder, I get the "unknown" icon.  However, the "Embedable Image View" displays the icon OK and the animation works.

I also tried this with KDECore r670334 to make sure that I didn't break it.  Same results.
