I'd say it has nothing to do with a stack overflow being checked by the interpreter.
It is crashing because the konqueror native stack gets an overflow.
Running this inside gdb reveals that the stack has 70282 frames on my machine until it crashes.
It is due to a indirect recursion in the evaluation code inside the interpreter itself.
