Summary: Revamp konqueror interface and use less screen space
Product: konqueror
Version: unspecified
Platform: FreeBSD Ports
OS/Version: FreeBSD
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: konq-bugs kde org
ReportedBy: landemaine gmail com
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4)
Installed from: FreeBSD Ports
OS: FreeBSD
KDE is the most widely used Desktop Environment on Unix systems, and Konqueror comes with every \
KDE system, still Konqueror has close to zero usage in browser statistics.
While Konqueror renders poorly IE-only web sites, this is not the only reason. Konqueror's user \
interface is terrible. I have a suggestion to enhance its interface to waste less screen space, \
to remove useless buttons/handlers and to place stuff where newcomers expect it to be. Opera \
and Firefox are similar in terms of GUI, which helps newcomers, and they don't have to think or \
look for the buttons they're looking for. These are crucial usability aspects of a web browser. \
On Konqueror, nothing is obvious. Konqueror is quite different and after 4 years using \
Konqueror, I'm still uncomfortable using it. I thought it would be better over time, but it \
hasn't improved.
Here are my suggestions to revamp Konqueror's UI. These changes are not based particularly on \
what I like but rather on trends, common sense and on what I think people would like:

This screenshot was taken on a PC-BSD computer. There are subtil changes. Please have a look at \
it seriously and carefully, discuss it with other developers, analyze all changes, and see if \
this makes sense to you. I hope this helps and I hope more and more people enjoy Konqueror.
Thank you.
