The same is true for e.g. the menubar...
I run X in 92dpi, and have set my fonts to 10, and use plastik

The menubar is almost 3 times as high as the font itself, and if you would
remove 2px over and below the font, we can gain 4 only from the menubar.
This makes 5% of the available height wasted on an average 1024x768 screen...
