I am currently using supermount (supermount-ng.sourceforge.net). It is a kernel patch which adds a special filesystem called supermount, which makes it possible to access removable media without having to mount or unmount them. Supermount is mounted only once at system startup and then the mounted directories always show the contents of the media. Media can be changed at any time. This is very convenient since my /mnt/floppy directory always shows the contents of the floppy disk currently inserted, but it causes a problem with konqueror. I like file previews and they are enabled globally on my system. I can disable previews for specific protocols, eg ftp:// etc. I can also disable previews in a specific directory by creating an appropriate .directory file. This is, however, not enough to disable previews for a supermount-mounted floppy, since in order to do it, I would have to put a .directory file on each floppy. ince I often have to deal with floppies brought to me by others, I can't possibly assure that. It would be great if one could specify directories which don't show file previews in some config file rather than by putting a .directory file in there. This would be convenient not only for floppies, but also for nfs-mounted volumes or just directories which are on a hard disk, but you don't have write access to them (eg. a public image gallery where you don't want previews). Previews are terribly slow on a floppy and I sometimes have to wait very long before I can do anything since konqueror is generating previews. On the other hand, I wouldn't like to turn previews off globally. I know I could use floppy:// and turn previews off for this protocol, but floppy:// is terribly slow as compared to mounting and has the disadvantage of not really being a part of the filesystem (eg. I can't access this location from non-kde apps). Perhaps one could either a) Make it possible to specify a list of directories which are excluded from generating previews, no matter whether they contain a .directory file or not or b) Make devices:// recognize the supermount filesystem type, so I could use devices://something to acces the floppy. Solution a) is more flexible since it would work for nfs disks etc. also, and would be more consistent (with b), if I used devices://fd0 I would be able to get no previews, but if I went to /mnt/floppy I still would). _______________________________________________ Konq-bugs mailing list Konq-bugs@mail.kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/konq-bugs
