I assigned this to myself, but (don't know why) isn't assigned to me now (I try to \
reassign it.. hope will least!). In fact i can confirm this bug on 20031014 head. \
I've traced down this to kdelibs/kio/kio/tcpslavebase and a metaData (ssl_was_in_use) \
CLEARED when typing an address w/o trailing slash. The problem is that nobody \
explicitly clears that variable (looked through all  main CVS modules). All I can \
think by now is that without trailing slash the url is a 'different' type of address \
that inherits the dafults value for tat metaData... investigating..
