One reason to Stop Animations is because animations suck CPU (although not quite as bad in the newest Qt). While you're right clicking and trying to get through the menu to stop animations the animations are still sucking CPU, making it slow and choppy and hard to get to Stop Animations. It's a minor detail, but it would be a really nice feature. Also, if you have a right-click menu up, you're watching that, and not the animations (which might even be covered by the menu) so it makes sense to do this.
