E-mail can trivially be read using Mac's integrated mail application through IMAP.  \
This works perfectly, with the little drawback that it does not allow me to hide the \
special (Calendar, etc.) folders.

For calendars and address books my approach was to try the integrated Apple tools \
'iCal' <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICal> and 'Address Book' \
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Address_Book_%28application%29>.  As afaik the code \
base is the same as for the iPhone tools which *do* connect to Kolab through Z-Push, \
I was surprised that it doesn't work.

iCal seems to support CalDav/WebDav, but I don't know how to configure it in Kolab.  \
Subscribing to *.ics calendar URL's works, but the calendar is read-only, and \
national utf8 characters are wrongly encoded.

No idea what might work for the address book.


The basic question is: how can I integrate a box running Mac OS X with Kolab?

I know that there were attempts to build Kontact for OS X.  However, afaict, there is \
no installer-like package which can simply be used.  The last time I tried it was \
through Macports source repository about a year ago, iirc it took ~72 hours (!!) on \
my old PowerMac G4 to compile, and there were still many bugs those days.  Needless \
to say that this is not an acceptable approach for the "normal" user.  The newest \
announcements are about 1 1/2 years old (e.g. \

sorry, German...).  Maybe you have more information about the current status?

Thunderbird with Synckolab might be an alternative, but this also was buggy the last \
time I tried it (which is also some months ago I must admit; will test it again).

The third option might be (as on Windows) a connector for Outlook/Mac.  However, \
neither of those seems to support OS X.  Needles to say I would prefer a free \
alternative, btw... ;-), but as my boss already purchased the complete M$ Office \
package including Outlook for his new Mac, it would be a solution for my current peck \
of trouble.

I am fully aware of the fact that Mac's are only a small fraction of the market.  \
However, in particular the notebooks gained some popularity so IMHO there should be a \
concept how they can be integrated *easily* with Kolab.
