It is difficult. However, Corel have "Word Perfect Office", so I can't see
 MSFT being able to have a go at KOffice.

Changing the name was acceptable -- however, I think that this fee is
 totally unacceptable.
 
Like other people have pointed out, I can't see how this lawyer can enforce
 such a thing against open source software.
 
As the about box says:
 
"No single group, company or organization controls the KDE source code."
 
So I can't see that the lawyer can take specific action against you.
 
David mentioned contacting Andreas Pour on kde-core -- I think that
 contacting Eben Moglen as well would be an excellent idea, if nobody has done
 this yet.
 
I think I would tell the lawyer to get lost -- although quite likely in
 stronger language. ;)
