I even implemented an immediate update of the title when the contents of that text object changes. Having a way to force a title, independently from the contents, is a very good idea... but does your patch allow to still have the current feature working ? And the other way round, it seems to me that if someone uses your feature to set a title, it's going to get reverted as soon as the first text object of the page is updated - you would have to disable that, if a title has been set manually.
