I can live with this. "Standard" is the only style that exists by default 
and all others are considered optional.

It would be perhaps good if at load time styles that are used but not 
defined could be mapped to "Standard" to avoid subtle bugs at saving/export 
time.

I made it create "Standard" only, just to avoid an empty combobox.
I discussed this matter with Shaheed on IRC previously, and we agreed
that creating a bunch of default styles isn't a good idea - if the user 
removed
them, then it's that he/she doesn't want them, not that KWord should 
enforce
those styles to be present in any case.

KWord doesn't "rely" on any style to exist at all [anymore]. You can define
Heading styles with the name you want, you don't need styles anymore for
bullets and numbers (although you can define styles with them of course), 
etc.
So I don't think it's a good idea to precreate any styles - that's what the
templates are for.
