This could be a solution: near values are good enough for most
users. Professional users could buy a license/module from pantone.

By the way: does anyone have some bored lawyers ? As far as i know algorithms
cant be patented in europe. In addition being an open source thing, i
wonder if there are any legal holes to sneak through (eg a patch-solution
like LAME).
