Michael,

The real solution has two parts. The first part is to be able to refer to a 
built-in style by name from an import filter *and not to have to include it 
the <STYLE> list*. I believe the new richedit-KWord being worked on will 
include this (I'm sure Reggie or Thomas will let us know if this has 
changed!).

The second part (which just occurred to me) is that a filter should be able 
to include its own list of styles which gets *appended* to the built-in 
ones. Since I only just thought of this, I have no idea if anyone is working 
on this.

The MSWord filter is just waiting for the first part: like you, I have held 
off trying to include an explicit style list in the filter.
