At that point, Lukas was being sponsored to build the features we needed to make 2.3 end-user ready, so he also worked in the branch. For me as Krita maintainer, 2.2 was just a distraction. Right now, Lukas and Dmitry are still being sponsored to make 2.3 end-user ready, so their focus is on bug fixing. If we had determined that 2.4 would be the big one and if we had been missing features, development would have gone on in the branch as well. In fact, Adam has been doing development in the branch for Krita. The branch is for everyone who has the urge to do stuff that can destabilize trunk in the run-up to the release.
