It is *impossible* to know for sure how much you were influenced by his 
previous code. If you remove a plugin, and start a new implementation from 
scratch, without looking at the old implementation, then ok, you don't have to 
put the old copyright, but if you take the old plugin and do a lot of 
refactoring and in the end consider that you have totally rewritten it, it is 
still impossible to know for sure that the new code is not a derivative of the 
old code.

But in this case, Thomas said that the point was that Pierre did not have any 
copyright right on that file in the first place.
