Bug 185354 (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=185354) is about a bug that
introduces an incompatibility with OpenOffice.org. The bug itself is in OOo,
in the way that it saves its files, no doubt about that.
However, the nature of the bug is such that if we don't work around it, then
we can just forget about anybody that ever saved a presentation in OO Impress
to ever use KPresenter. Yes, it's that bad.
I would like to discuss how to handle this. In general I don't think we
should encourage buggy files by supporting the bugginess in our application.
But in this case, we can't just ignore it IMHO.
The market for ODF applications right now is OOo, then comes nothing, then
comes nothing, etc ^10, then maybe comes Google apps with crappy ODF support,
and far behind that comes KOffice. If we don't make allowances for OOo at
this time, then we can just stop development right here and now.
Of course this doesn't mean that we shouldn't make a fuss about it and allow
them to continue saving in buggy format. We should save in the correct way
ourselves.
Comments?
