Well no. It should build with 0.16 (but I am not sure if someone has test that 
in a long time, so maybe he doesn't anymore, in which case we should up the 
requirement, but giving that you seem to have issues with 0.17 and 0.18, I 
tend to believe the problem is elsewhere), it definitively build with 0.17 
(and GCC 4.3.x), and it has been fixed to build with 0.18.
