Thanks for taking it to the next level and doing some brainstorming!

I'm not sure I follow this problem, can you be more specific?
My observation in, for example, Krita is that things look ok if you take 10
minutes to organize your dockers and close the duplicates / unwanted ones.
I assume you need more on screen? What kind of things do you need and what
resolution screen do you have?

Its probably not the best of ideas to conclude it being 'awkward' when the
toolbox and the dockers have various known problems that people *can* fix,
but just have not gotten around to. (didn't you promise to do some work on
margins on dockers? I just saw one stray commit, but not what we discussed)

Too much space, how? You still have to fit the icons somewhere...

This is a docker (and a plugin even) so lets keep that out of the discussion
about the tool system.

Interresting idea. Not quite sure if its something we should look into before
2.1, though. Please try to get into the mode that we will release soon. Its
not very helpful to revisit things that technically *work*.

Looking at your screenshot I'm trying to see how this work for other apps. The
styles list (tool options) doesn't seem fit in your design, it also doesn't
take into account the limitation of dock widgets having tabs on the bottom
which makes docking stuff on the top take too much space.
Last problem I see is that putting stuff at the top seems to ignore the
industry moving towards widescreen. I'm guessing you don't have a widescreen
display :)

Can you elaborate why you feel this should be on by default? For KPresenter &
Krita I can imagine this being useful (and we have it in 1.6). It would be a
new thing for all the other apps to have, though. Not only for KOffice, but
also if you compare it to other apps. Did you have an example in mind for
suggesting that KWord should have a document layout docker by default?

I'm guessing you don't have a widescreen yet :) (or a second screen)
