We could do that -- but we're not going to release another 1.6 release, so it 
would be a bit of a waste of effort. And it could invite distributions to 
package 1.6 svn instead of a release, which would make our support job much 
harder. (It's already pretty hard, with distributions like opensuse doing 
weird stuff to our tablet code.)
