Anyone interested in speaking about ODF and KOffice -- and interoperability?
(It's been a bit long already for me, the interoperability issues I knew about are getting old...)

Dear David Faure
The Danish National IT and Telecom Agency has asked me to investigate
the possibility of having an international conference/workshop on
converter interoperability. I have received positive response from a.o.
SUN and Novell and I would also like to hear your opinion on behalf of
KDE/KOffice.
For your information: I own and run a small open source company in
Copenhagen. We work on OS terms with development and consultancy and we
carry out tasks for public sector authorities. I furthermore chair the
Danish Open Source Business Association (www.osl.dk) and I am board
member of Open Forum Europe (www.openforumeurope.org).
Back to the conference/workshop:
As you might be aware we are dependent upon converters in order to have
document interoperability since the main formats (ODF and OOXML) are not
interoperable.
The aim of the conference is to focus on the technical issues rather
than the political aspects. Thus the National IT and Telecom Agency is
interested in you and your colleagues participating as technicians and
not as proponents for one document format or the other, let alone the
standards discussion.
The main background for the conference/workshop is the Danish
parliamentary decision that all public sector institutions have to be
able to handle both document formats (ODF and OOXML) from Jan. 1. 2008.
The parliamentary decision emphasizes the need for interoperability and
the expectation is that in the near future other governments around the
world are about to take the same approach on open standards and document
formats. Hence the target group of the conference is international and
so is the list of invites, both on speakers and audience.
On the speaker list we need some of the best skilled developers (able to
communicate) on document interoperability. The audience will primarily
be public sector ICT architects - from Denmark and probably also from
other parts of Europe.
The tentative time period for the conference is June-September 2008.
I hope to hear from you soon. You can also contact me on + 45 26 83 34 71
Kind regards,
Morten Kjærsgaard
