I think you need to start with a single cell. But yeah, the plugin should 
be able to be used over a cell range.

Luckely thats not needed, thanks to the concept of plugins. KexiDB needs 
to be a library, which it is already. There is no need for it to move to 
a shared lib or module for this at all.
Take a look at the flake plugins that are in krita (the tools for 
example).  They are still available in all applications even though they 
do link against the Krita image library.
But this is off topic in this thread.  Lets not make it about kexi, but 
keep it on kspread ;)
