As David; I am concerned that there is too little to justify this change. 
Most users still view kword/kpresenter/kspread as the core apps and while 
some cool usability work has been done the bump to 2.0 just is not 
justified IMO.
There are only a couple of months left for the 2.0 release and while I lke 
your optimism for meeting the wanted features for that release (perfect 
opendocument integration, for example) I'm not sure how realistic it is.  
We still are only a handfull of people doing this in their free time...
