I took a look through our configure scripts but cannot find anything that

Well, naturally we'd prefer everyone to have the best KOffice experience 
possible.

If you really want to let the powers that be know, try finding out who 
packages the fedora koffice rpm's -- I guess an rpm has some information 
about who created it. You might also try posting a question on 
kde-packager@kde.org, although I don't know much about that list. It's just 
that the listname sounds relevant. And aren't there mailing lists for fedora? 
I see dependency problems being discussed on fedora-list@redhat.com.
