It would be useful if the patterns would be exchangeable between Krita and 
Karbon, so that you can use SVG patterns in Krita and Gimp patterns in 
Karbon.

I looked at the same thing for the gradients, but Gimp and SVG gradients are 
not very compatible. Gimp gradients are based on segments with start and end 
color. SVG gradients are based on stops and some other SVG things.
It would be good if you could find a common way to handle them. I'm willing to 
help with the implementation.
