Well, I checked the 5.5.7-34 tarball I found on the imagemagick ftp server, 
and that version still doesn't have the function. So it's a good guess to say 
it's introduced in 6.0. I can't be sure though, because the information on 
these functions is as good as nonexistent :-(
The problem is, that the method krita used before this, apparantly introduces 
some problems, and actually seems to be deprecated in 6.x: my magick.h has:
    *next;  /* deprecated, use GetMagickInfoList() */
I unfortunately don't know how and if this can be fixed to work with 5.5.x as 
well as 6.x.
