As I was also the one who proposed the changes, sadly I can only say 
that this didn't progress as much as it should. The consensus was that 
we rather move gradually to the new design, this is slower but reduces 
the potential problems which may (or may not) arise.

If you want to help, some easier tasks (not core internal changes, but 
belong more to the "clean-up" jobs) are available. Track my posts in 
this lists couple of months ago.

Also, perhaps Tomas can use few helping hands. Any OASIS work will help 
Laurent, as well.

PS: With one year left for my doctorate thesis, unfortunately I could 
not spend too much time (as I'd like) on KSpread. Maybe after all these 
nightmares end :-P
