I think this would be the best. The Krita (and Karbon) backend could be moved
to an external library. You could have a KPart which can be embeded into
several applications e.g. in Krita, Kolourpaint, Kontact whiteboard or maybe
someone wants to have an application with GIMP-feeling. Every app could pick
out the features it needs.
This is already done in Kate. You have a big range of apps using Kate (Kate,
Quanta, KDevelop, Kile ... )
