For a very limited version of working. They were also working,
about as well, in Krita in about 2000, when John Califf was still
working on it. There's a reason Patrick has begun a redesign,
and that reason was the lessons learned from a too simplistic
initial approach.

QPainter provides a lot of functionality, but at the bottom, QPainter
was meant for drawing widgets: buttons and stuff. Not for image
editing.
