Note how much KWord sucks already on systems without Xft: it takes _ages_ to start up, because creating a 250pt font with the direct X API is very slow (with Xft it doesn't need to load the glyphs when only querying for the font metrics, with X it does). Koos's posts about the slow startup were solved in private mail - he forgot to compile Qt with Xft support. After doing that, it starts up very fast again - for the reason mentionned above. Well. It will still work on systems without Xft, but only as much as it works currently (slow startup, rounding errors at zoom levels != 100%). You can't make gold from dust (just made that up, I'm sure there's a better proverb :). Anyway, libXft2 is coming, which works on all systems, even those without the RENDER extension. This is the long term solution. - -- David FAURE, david@mandrakesoft.com, faure@kde.org http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~david/ Contributing to: http://www.konqueror.org/, http://www.koffice.org/ KOffice 1.2 RC1 is slightly delayed.
