Hi,

I would like to discuss the issue about WYSIWYG and a common file format. In
order to become accepted among the users it is required to not only have a
common file format but to have the very same results when printing the
document.

I can imagine that during editing of a document the look on the screen is a
little bit different from program to program but in order to be useful the
final printout should render and look the same.

What kind of solutions and or ideas do you have in order to solve this?

What kind of reference is suited in order to define what the correct printout
is supposed to look like.

What about seperating the printing process from the editing process?

This would for example mean that OO Writer or KWord are basically WYSIWYG
editors which produce an XML file (the common file format) which is then in
an extra step the basis for transformation to ps, pdf or any other formats
like rtf or doc.

Of course for the enduser these implementation details can be easily hidden.

Yours,
--martin
