Hi,

As David already mentioned there is some effort under way to create a common
native file format for Office suites. Also Thomas showed that we need an
improved format for KOffice.

Currently most of the discussion with regards to the file format is done on
the office_standards@openoffice.org mailing list. Please be aware of the fact
that this discussion was not initiated by the OO people and is a very general
topic for everyone involved in Office documents. It is more of a coincident
that the discussion currently takes place there.

In the future there might be a dedicated forum to discuss the file format
independent on OO but of course with OO people participating.

The fact that currently the German Government and also the European Union
administration are interested in supporting this effort (just imagine that it
could be mandatory to send tenders and other documents in this format to
these agencies..) can really help us imho.

Yours,

P.S.: The URL about inter Office Suite cooperation and the mentioned mailing
list is http://xml.openoffice.org/standardisation/
