Ok, so Python 2.0 wouldn't link, but 2.1 does.

Send your wishes about autoconf to the autoconf developers.

Well, of course no. That's why we need the config.log entry, to see the
missing symbol and try to guess the missing lib.

It says clearly: figure out which lib is missing and THEN write to use about it.
