For a non-breaking space, Word uses Ctrl-Shift-Space (we should also for
consistency), but since that is non-obvious, there must be a way through
windows to "Insert special Character" and let them select the character.
As for what to show, either show what you show for a space (nothing), or
use a slightly off-background color.
