does anyone doubt that microsoft is closely following the
adobe/killustrator muck-up??...their lawyers are likely
working up the papers now (if they've not long had them on
hand) to bring infringement suits for the names koffice and
kword...at what point they'll serve those papers is a
tactical decision on their part...they'll pick the time
when such serving will cause maximum distress and
disruption...

about a year ago on this list, i argued for very short
names for koffice programs, citing enduring and easily
spoken names such as sed, vi, awk, and kde itself...i
suggested, to no acclaim, the renaming of koffice to kdo...

perhaps now would be a good time to re-visit the whole kde
naming scheme, and pull all those names into a common
system that is both kde specific, and highly unlikely to be
challengeable by other producers of software...

as ease at tongue aids memory, one might name programs:

kdo: an office suite
kdw: (pronounced kay-dee-dub) a word processor
kds: a spreadsheet
kdill: (pronounced kay-dee-ill) an illustrator
kdpho: a photo handling program
kded: (pronounced kay-dee-ed) an editor
kdcha: (prnounced kay-dee-cha) a charting program

and so forth...such names ought all be far enough from
those of existing programs to preclude future legal
actions, and it'll be far less disruptive to re-name all
programs now, than it will be in the near future...
