Having multiple ways to handle events and being able to specify default
behaviors is a nice thing.  One thing I like with msvc is being able to
make read only files uneditible.  You don't have to have this behavior
(it is off by default), but it can be set.

Why not allow a dialog to pop up if you open a read only file?  The
problem with doing it is that it captures focus and interrupts activity.
That is why I would NOT make it a default choice, but make it selectable
by the user.  Choice is a good thing!
